“Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away” (Song of Sol. 2:10). In the beautiful poetry, Song of Sol. 2:4-17, the resurrection and glorious change of our bodies who are Christ’s and our meeting Him in the air is compared to an elopement. Then comes the marriage feast followed by the glory of ruling the world with our Lord, the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. And looking at these verses of Scripture we can see something of that event , the blessed hope of those of us who know God which is eternal life (1Thess. 4:16-17).
The Bride is not Jewish; for the daughters of Jerusalem are charged to not interfere. The Bride is instructed to remove the foxes that spoil the vines. So we have the preparation of the Bride in holiness by the Groom Himself. We know that even now God prepares us who are believers in chastisements and corrections that we may be ready for His final correction on that wonderful day. The result that we , Christ’s Bride, will not have “spot or wrinkle”. The Bride’s wedding garment: the righteous acts of His people (Rev. 19:8); these are acts of faith resulting from love.
Christ (the groom) is pictured looking forward to that day as a young lover looks forward to the day of his marriage. The groom stands without, and is looking in through the lattice work to see his bride (Song of Sol. 2:9). And so, although we can not see Christ, He can see us. And soon, v.16, “My beloved is mine, and I am His”. But we know not the day or hour of His coming . When living on earth our Lord said, “what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch” (Mark 13:37).
Who are the ones that make up His Bride which is the Church? “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory” ( Eph. 1:12-14).
