Riding out the Storm.
While I write, we in Florida face a heavy rain storm from a hurricane; but not such a storm that covered the earth many years ago. All of us have heard of Noah, his family, and the animals that found safety in a large ship (called an ark). Noah built it by God’s instructions (Gen. 7). This ark is a picture of our protection in the judgement of God which is coming on the whole earth. And here is a comparison.
God ordered the ark to be covered by pitch within and without. It was water proof. An astonishing fact: The Bible, in this part, was written in Hebrew and the word for pitch in Hebrew is the same as the word translated atonement. Our safety in God’s judgment coming is the atonement of Christ and nothing else. Our protection is His blood shed on the cross of Calvary. God viewed the atonement of Christ from above and we who are in Christ by our faith view the atonement of Christ from within. Result: we have assurance. Our sins are covered. And as Paul said, we are “accepted in the Beloved” (Eph.1:6). All living in the earth at the time of Noah except Noah and his family drowned . The only protection from God”’s coming judgement is Christ crucified, the ark of our salvation. Its protection is sure. “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth” (Rom.8:33).
