The Law, the prophets, the rituals, the preaching of Jesus, the preaching of His apostles, the preaching of Luther and the Reformers, the preaching of the many during the golden age of bible preaching in the nineteenth century, and a few today all tell the same way to eternal life: Grace through faith in the Gospel (Rom. 1:16).
Because, humanly speaking, of the world empire of the Victorian age ( Queen Victoria herself being a devout Bible believer), the world then was open for missions and Bible teaching; not so now, but the truth will go on even after heaven and earth are destroyed (Matt. 24:35). Here are quotes on assurance by Bible teachers of the nineteenth century- same truth as today.
“If you believe on Him, I tell you you cannot go to Hell; for that were to make the sacrifice of Christ of none effect. It cannot be that a sacrifice should be accepted and yet the soul should die for whom that sacrifice had been received.”-C.H. Spurgeon, English preacher.
“If Christ died the death in which sin had involved us, if in His death He took the responsibility of our sins upon Himself, no word is equal to this which falls short of what is meant by calling Him our substitute.” -James Denney, Scottish theologian
