Assuming that we have our spititual eyes open, we know this life is a battle: warfare between between good and evil. One who does not know this will find it out or perhaps is already down and out. The battle is spiritual and the battlefield is the mind. Eph.6:12. From the Bible and from my own experience I write the following:

1. When in a place of temptation leave immediately. Do as Joseph did when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. Gen. ch.39. Flee. There are many in prison as I write who stayed on with a friend after finding out the friend had an unlawful act in mind. Now they are in prison as an accessory or lookout. The Bible says ” flee youthful lusts”.
2. When the temptation seems to come from within you: turn the matter over to One who does dwell within you, even the powerful Spirit of God. Your cry for help is prayer He will hear.
3. Confess your sins; if you know them, name them to Christ. He is our priest with His blood ever to cleanse and He always lives to make intercession for us. He said in the model prayer “give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses…”. We need daily bread and we need daily forgiveness.
4. Forgive those that trespass against you. Christians, that means us and God means it. His chastening rod will be on those believers who expect forgiveness, but hold a grudge against another. Unbelievers will have their account settled at the great white throne of final judgement.

The Scriptures, Eph.6:13, compare the believer to a contestant in a gladiators arena, viewed by heaven and earth, “having done all, stand”, the enemy under our feet in defeat.
